High Powered Lamp and IR Review

As the co owner of The Countryman’s Diary Magazine and a Professional Controller we are always being asked to review kit and equipment for out in the field, it matters not if its day or night we use it all and really put anything were asked to test properly through its paces, as a respected Countryman, Conservationist and well known International Game Chef, my word is gold, I have always had this same ethos if its not good enough for me to part with my hard earned cash, then it most certainly is not good enough for you, here I will give you my honest view of this latest Lamp both Greg and I have been sent to test, I will say I don't write technical articles, not because I cant its just they bore the ears off of me writing them, although I may add a little technical bits just for a bit of colour as it were.

I have done a rough and ready YouTube video to accompany this article to give you a visual idea of this lamp, so watch this video too and make up your own mind, there will be a link over on The Countryman’s Diary Magazine to where you can buy this lamp from too, so go over to the magazine for that link countrymans-diary.co.uk here is a link to the Mag.
First off I will say I don't like this lamp, I bloody love it, alright its a bit fiddly to start off with until you get used to how it all works, take the battery out of which there are two, one to use and one as back up, for some reason they put it in a toy torch even though they supply a battery holder, that made me scratch my head for a moment, it comes with a double battery charger too, a barrel mounting bracket or the figure eight one that goes on your scope etc, lots of little extras like O rings and other little bits.

The kit come with the K52 torch and magnifier and four pills, they are White, Red, Green and Infrared (IR) and I must say the IR is amazing but we will get to that shortly, all the colour pills are brilliant and crystal clear looking through the scope I could see eye shine at 400 yards and identification clearly at 300 yards, although my experience told me what was what at greater distance just how the animal moved.

Changing the pills was a bit fiddly really but very well made so I guess that was the reason why, you have to take out the battery, remove the magnifier and wind the collar up to access the pill, then you have to unscrew the pill to change colours or indeed the IR pill, like I say that's a bit fiddly but does make for a very well made sturdy lamp that wont break in a couple of outing, all the colours performed brilliantly but as always my favourite is the Green Pill, no other reason but personal preference as I like that spectrum and find it the most successful for me, mounting on the gun could not be any easier and is self explanatory, I am sure I don't need to draw you a diagram me for this as you should be able to work this out for yourself, charging is dead easy and straight forward, a red light means its charging a green light on the charger its charged, you can take the torch switch off the end and put on the thumb pressure switch by simply unscrewing the bottom of the torch, in fact if your changing pills this will be already off so just screw on the thumb pressure switch, all this comes in a nice handy ABS case that is cut out with foam to fit all the bits in.

Now I do know there is a KL41 model of this torch but as of yet we do not have this one so I cant say what this one is like, but thats the one in the top pic, we do have a link for that one too over at The Countryman's Diary Magazine.

The IR I must say is the very best I have tried to date, as with all the other pills they are fully adjustable from flood beam to a pencil beam, the clarity on these are quite simply remarkable, the IR really gave great clarity on several Night Vision units that I tried it with, I used an old Pitch Black Unit for the main demo, you will see in the video I watched Deer, Badger and Rabbits all play none the wiser I was there right out to great distance.

My final word on this lamp is, yes its a bit fiddly until you get used to it, but that said its well made and sturdy with quality components and wont fall apart in two minuets, this should give you many years of good service if you look after it that is, I will say again that IR is something else too, I will give this my golden thumbs up seal of approval for value for money, does what it says on the tin and is a quality product, I believe the price is around the £80 to £90 mark, but as my Pappy always said, Buy Once Cry Once.
